Newborn + Family Photography
As well as weddings I also do a lot of newborn photography and family photography. I became a mother myself just over a year ago so it was a natural move for me to start photographing more babies and families. There is something so precious about being able to capture newborns in the first few days of life– their tiny fingers and toes, soft, wispy hair and delicate skin.
It is such a pleasure when couples ask me back to capture their family as it grows. I find it really lovely to not only be able to photograph a newborn baby, but to return months later to capture them again when they have become proper little people with their own cheeky personalities. It really is one of the perks of being a photographer,
When should I schedule my newborn session?
Ideally, you need to do this whilst you are still pregnant. Newborns change so quickly so I would suggest having them photographed within the first 10 days.
Do you use a studio?
My photography is very natural and I aim to capture you and your family in the comfort of your own home rather than use a studio and white background. However, I have recently set up our spare room to use for intimate newborn and maternity sessions, which can sometimes be more appealing to new parents. I know how crazy a house can get when a new person arrives, despite how tiny they are!
Do I need to buy any special outfits for a newborn session?
I like to photograph newborns with nothing on or maybe a cute fabric nappy cover and I can provide these if needs be so just let me know what colour to bring! Adding lots of texture is great for a variety of shots so blankets and fluffy pillows are also quite useful. I also have a white wood effect photography flooring which looks great for newborn sessions.
How long is each session?
Newborn sessions can be anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on your baby. I make sure there is plenty of time for feeding so that your newborn is relaxed, as ideally, a sleeping baby is what we want. Family sessions are generally 2 hours and can be done in your own home or out and about at a location where everyone feels comfortable and relaxed. I tend to suggest places where children can get stuck in to an activity and have fun as this makes for great natural family photographs.
